Head coach Amidu Karim has expressed his appreciation for his team’s attitude after overcoming a challenging moment. Following our heavy defeat in our opening match of the West Africa Champions Cup, Sunday’s win in Kankan, Guinea was important.
The team came together and secured an impressive 2–0 victory over AS Real Bamako at the Stade M’ballou Mady Stadium, leaving Coach Karim feeling relieved and pleased with their response.
The former Sierra Leone boss, assessing his team, Coach Karim emphasised, “Firstly, I want to thank God for this result and, most importantly, the players for demonstrating tremendous character, commitment, and dedication.
After our disappointing 4–0 loss in the last match, we were not just upset about the outcome; our performance did not meet the standards I expected. However, my coaching staff and I managed to rally the players and prepare them both physically and mentally.
In our match against AS Real Bamako, we demonstrated that we are here to compete. This victory means a lot to me as it marks my first international win with Star Sport, making it a very special moment.
I commend the boys for their grit and determination. Although we are not accustomed to these weather conditions, the players adapted well and handled it admirably.
This win will boost our confidence as we head into the next and final match. The adjustments we made were crucial; I learned valuable lessons from our previous game, and I believe they significantly contributed to our improved performance.
We’re proud of the team and truly grateful for their hard work, resolve, and character.“
Our next outing in the tournament is another difficult task against another Malian side, Djoliba, on Wednesday.
