Just under four years after its establishment, Star Sport Academy has reached the second round of the CAF Champions League preliminary stage following a hard-fought 1-1 draw with hosts Medina United.

Playing at the Independence Stadium, the Academy secured a crucial goal in the 52nd minute, with Santigie Fornah’s decisive header proving the difference on the day.

Fornah rose highest to power his effort into the net, scoring his first goal in the competition and sending the Academy into the next round.

Having played to a goalless draw against Medina United in Sierra Leone at the Southern Arena last Saturday, Star Sport Academy knew they needed a positive result on away soil to progress.

However, a late extra-time goal from the home side came too late to prevent elimination.

The achievement marks another significant milestone for the young academy, which was established less than four years ago and is now making its mark on the continental stage. 

It’s worth mentioning that we spent only two seasons in the Sierra Leone Premier League. In our first season, we finished eighth and last season we were runners-up, which prompted our participation after the Champions Bo Rangers withdrew their participation.
